As
many of you know PSEA recently purchased two K-9's
for DPS and after the dogs arrived in the State,
PSEA and DPS conducted a naming campaign including
elementary and middle school children in the areas
where the K-9's will be assigned and including PSEA
member's children throughout the State. We received
hundreds, and possibly thousands, of entries from
interested children.
Congratulations go to Ashley Lantz of Fairbanks and
Aaron Cox of Palmer for the winning entries. After
hours of sorting through entries and meetings of the
PSEA Naming Committee there were a number of
finalists with the winning entries being as follows:
Fairbanks --
Duncan; in memory of Trooper Troy Duncan
who was killed in the line of duty in the Fairbanks
area (submitted by Ashley Lantz)
Palmer -- Roelle;
in memory of Trooper Hans Roelle who was killed in
the line of duty in the Palmer area (submitted by
Aaron Cox)
The
names were reviewed and approved by AST Capt.
Mallard who expressed appreciation for the
thoughtfulness of the names.
Our
thanks go to all those who participated in the
process with a special thanks to the school
districts in Fairbanks and Mat-Su, Scott Johnson for
his expertise and guidance, and Sgt. Drew Merrill,
Trp. Bob Claus, Officer Joe White of Ketchikan PD,
and Inv. Steve Lantz who served on the PSEA K-9
Naming Committee.
