Q1 How many years does it take to be vested in PERS?
A1 It takes five years to become vested in
PERS. However, if you are a tier three employee it takes ten
years be vested in the health insurance afforded under the
plan.
Q2 Over how many years is retirement calculated for
Tier II and Tier
III employees? And does overtime and shift differential count
in this
calculation?
A2 Tier II & Tier III employees have their
retirement calculated over the three highest consecutive years.
And yes, overtime and shift differentials are included in
the calculation.
Q3 How do our health insurance premiums compare with
other unions?
A3 The State now contributes the same amount
to all employee plans. However, the amount contributed by
the employees differs greatly. Only one union representing
state employees has a lower employee contribution at $50 per
month, however our plan offers much better coverage.
Q4 Is PSEA interested in pursuing educational incentive
pay?
A4 We are, and we have, pursued educational
incentive pay. However, in the give and take process of negotiations
we have not yet acquired such a provision.
